Writefest 2022 brings an amazing group of tutors and wordsmiths together under one roof to teach a broad range of craft skills over one super stimulating day.

How to be a PRODUCTIVE WRITER

Want to write more but just can't get started? Or maybe you start but lose motivation along the way? But you're yearning to write - so what the hell is going on? This insightful workshop teaches you the tips and techniques you need to become a more focused and productive writer - and get out of your own way.

2 HOURS — Kathryn Burnett

MAKING YOUR CHARACTERS TALK

Good dialogue is all about hearing the music in everyday language. Dominic will share tips and tricks learnt from 30 years of writing to help you create believable characters and get them talking to one another on the page.

“Writing Vile Bitches & Terrible Bastards” - From Hannibal the Cannibal to Snow White's step-mum - I think we can all agree fictional baddies are awesome! Join two writers who revel in all things dark as they track the creation of their favourite scumbags and show you how to avoid cliches and bring humanity to your villains on the page.

Dig into the art of YA novels with successful YA author Eileen Merriman. Learn how to craft YA novels, focusing on characterisation, point of view and pacing - expect writing exercises to be performed in class.

Poetic Techniques for Gorgeous Prose

You’re writing prose (fiction, memoir, short story, personal essay perhaps), but you want your style to be tuned like poetry. Learn how to incorporate poetry techniques like rhythm, sound, connotation and imagery into your prose and make it gorgeous.

Trudi Jaye and Cheryl Phipps take you through the self-publishing process and what it entails. These self-publishing podcasters will leave you with enough information to get you started and an insider’s understanding of how to take next steps.

PLOTTING YOUR NOVEL

So you’ve got an idea for a novel (however vague), but you don’t know where to start. This workshop presents strategies for growing your idea from kernel to first draft. We will discuss and try out techniques to develop character, find voice, create narrative structure, and to manage your writing journey.

Q: Who is this workshop for?

Anyone writing fiction or interested in writing fiction. There is a range of workshops - some are for aspiring writers, others are for people already writing. (Feel free to get in touch if you have questions - right here)

Q: What is the MINIMUM age limit?

16 years old (But we’re happy to discuss!)

Q: How Many of the workshops will I have access to?

If you’ve purchased an All Day ticket you can move around as many of the workshops as you like. If you buy a One Off workshop ticket you’ll only have access to that workshop.

Q: What is the catering situation?

Morning and afternoon tea are provided. Purchasers of All Day Ticket also invited to our Coffee & Snacks @ 8am and Happy Hour @ 5pm.

Q: Can I buy additional tickets at venue on the day?

Yes, if you want to upsize to a Full Day ticket or purchase another One Off ticket - no problem.

Q: Are the tickets transferable?

From person to person or Writefest workshop to Writefest workshop - yes. Transferable to another BGWW event - no.

Q: What is your refund policy?

If we cancel the event for any reason - ticketholders will receive a full refund less Eventbrite fees. (NB: In case of COVID related lock downs - the event will be postponed and a postponed date will be offered shortly after announcement.)

NB: If the ticket holder wishes to cancel their Writefest 2022 registration a refund will only be issued if cancellation is a minimum of 7 days before the event. No exceptions. As tickets to this event are limited BGWW cannot issue refunds or exchanges after this time.
