Michael Bennett

Bennett (Ngāti Pikiao, Ngāti Whakaue) is a screenwriter, director and author. Michael's films have screened and won awards internationally, including Cannes, and New York. Michael’s first book, In Dark Places won Best Non-Fiction at the Ngaio Marsh Awards. His debut crime novel, Better the Blood was shortlisted for numerous international awards, including the 2023 Ockhams (NZ). Michael has been head writer or showrunner for dozens of hours of prime-time television drama including crime thriller The Gone (winner of Best Drama at the 2023 NZTV Awards).

 

Lee Murray

Murray multi-award-winning author-editor, essayist, screenwriter, and poet from Aotearoa-New Zealand. A USA Today Bestselling author, Shirley Jackson and five-time Bram Stoker Awards® winner, she is a New Zealand Prime Minister's Award-winner for Literary Achievement in Fiction. Lee lives in the sunny Bay of Plenty with her well-behaved family and a naughty dog.

 
 

Anne Kennedy

Kennedy is a multi-award winning poet and fiction writer and screenplay editor who won the Prime Minister's Award for Literary Achievement in 2021.  She has taught writing at the University of Hawai`i and Manukau Institute of Technology and her most recent books include The Sea Walks into a Wall (AUP), Moth Hour (AUP) and The Ice Shelf (VUP). Awards and fellowships include the NZ Post Book Award for Poetry and the University of Iowa International Fall Residency.

 

Cheryl Phipps

Phipps is a USA Today and Amazon bestselling author from beautiful Auckland, New Zealand with two alter egos: C.A. Phipps writes cozy mysteries, and Cheryl Phipps writes contemporary romance. She loves stories filled with feisty heroines, suave heroes and wonderful small towns; crafting her own heart-warming tales of strong family ties, mixed in with a little romance and humor. Cheryl is a quarter of the enormously successful team behind the popular SPA Girl's Self-publishing Podcast.

 

Trudi Jaye

Jaye writes urban fantasy and young adult fiction. She’s a trained journalist, communications specialist and martial arts enthusiast. Her urban fantasy series Dragon Rising is set in an alternate universe that looks just like ours – except with dragon shifters and a kick butt heroine. Trudi is a quarter of the enormously successful team behind the popular SPA Girl's Self-publishing Podcast.

 

Janice Marriott

Marriott is a popular multi-award-winning children’s writer who has written numerous successful children’s books. She is also an experienced non-fiction writer who has published 4 memoirs (co-authored with Virginia Pawsey) and specialises in teaching memoir. Many of her books have been shortlisted for or won awards and in 2018 she was the recipient of the prestigious Margaret Mahy Medal.

FAQ

Q: Who is this workshop for?

Anyone writing fiction or interested in writing fiction. There is a range of workshops - some are for aspiring writers, others are for people already writing. (Feel free to get in touch if you have questions - right here)

Q: What is the MINIMUM age limit?

16 years old (But we’re happy to discuss!)

Q: How Many of the workshops will I have access to?

If you’ve purchased an All Day ticket you can move around as many of the workshops as you like. If you buy a One Off workshop ticket you’ll only have access to that workshop.

Q: What is the catering situation?

Morning and afternoon tea are provided. Purchasers of All Day Ticket also invited to our Coffee & Snacks @ 8am

Q: Can I buy additional tickets at venue on the day?

Yes, if you want to upsize to a Full Day ticket or purchase another One Off ticket - no problem.

Q: Are the tickets transferable?

From person to person or Writefest workshop to Writefest workshop - yes. Transferable to another BGWW event - no.

Q: What is your refund policy?

If we cancel the event for any reason - ticketholders will receive a full refund less Eventbrite fees. (NB: In case of COVID related lock downs - the event will be postponed and a postponed date will be offered shortly after announcement.)

NB: If the ticket holder wishes to cancel their Writefest 2024 registration a refund will only be issued if cancellation is a minimum of 7 days before the event. No exceptions. As tickets to this event are limited BGWW cannot issue refunds or exchanges after this time.
